One of the features that we all use a lot today is Instagram stories. The short video or image that will only be in the app for 24 hours, highlighted in the icon of our profile picture.

If you are one of the people that loves Instagram (like me 😀 ) and you want to have your page nice and updated, keep reading. In this tutorial, I will show you how to make covers for the albums of your highlighted Instagram stories.

Also, at the end of this tutorial I have a freebie: 15 icons for Instagram stories, ready to use. Wohoo!

Instagram stories is where we can transmit and post what we have recorded or saved on our cell phone, for 24 hrs.

But…what can I do if I want to indefinitely share what I have posted as well as my photos?

As you know, Instagram stories only last 24 hours. However, to continue projecting you can make one or several albums that will be saved on your Instagram Highlights Stories, between your biography and posts.

Some of you already have your Instagram highlights albums but don’t have a cover or you bought one but want to make it your own style. This tutorial will show you how to make them in a very easy way. Believe me, in less than 15 minutes you will have your covers ready to use, in your own style and FREE with a very EASY website and app: CANVA !!!

You don’t need to be a graphic designer, just follow these simple steps.

Let’s start by focusing which categories we want to design. This will help us do the job even faster than we think:

Here are some  general examples and icons or images you can use:

  • Hearts for stories about family or love
  • Airplane or map: for travel
  • Paw: for dogs
  • House: Home
  • Tv: for your favorites series or shows
  • Mountains: for outdoors adventures.
  • etc…

The best thing is you will find many of these icons in CANVA (the application that I always use).  But, if you want something more personalized you can draw it or search for free icons on the web and upload the image to the app you use to make the covers.

When you have the images you want to create for each category either annotated or saved, it’s time to design. Yippee! As I mentioned, I use a website and app that is super simple and easy to design without having any design experience. The design app is called Canva, and it’s free. It has a paid version, but,  believe me, with the free option you will have everything you need. You can find it on the web by accessing www.canva.com or by downloading it from the App Store or the Play Store, by searching the name CANVA.

Are you ready? Let’s start creating our Instagram Stories Albums covers:

  • Go to WWW.CANVA.COM or open the app
  • Click on Create Design
  • In the Search field, type Instagram Stories, and click (template size 1080 x1920 px., Height by width).
  • Now in the template, you can either choose a color or look for any photo/image that you want to use as your background.
  • Click where it says Elements and in the magnifying glass you can search for icons of the category you want to create.
  • Change the background color of your icon, to give it a personal touch.
  • Click on Save and Done!

If you did it on the computer, you must transfer the image to your cell phone and it is ready to be placed on your Instagram stories as a cover.
